Today is Labor Day. Suppose to be a day of rest for the working people. I googled it and read some history about Labor Day. Believe it or not, the first Labor Day was declared on Sept. 5, 1882, by the Central Labor Union of New York. Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday in 1887. The rest is history.
So every first Monday of September is declared a Labor Day holiday. We all can't wait to have one last holiday which has become known as the end of summer. One last vacation.
Did you know the Lord created a day of rest? He calls His the Sabbath Day. In Exodus 20:8-part of 10, it reads, "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work." Verse 11 ends by saying, "Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." This is one of the 10 commandments.
WOW! Talking about stepping on some toes, including mine. We have slowly gotten away from that commandment year by year till all the days seem to run together. Sure on Sunday you may go to church, but what do you do with the rest of the day? I will be the first to admit I'm right there with the rest of you.
Some Christians have become so caught up in the things of this world that they have forgotten God created a seventh day for us to rest and enjoy the beauty of His creation.
I certainly didn't write this to offend anyone. It just seem appropriate since this is Labor Day, a day of rest for the working people, to be mindful that God commanded a day of rest for His people. So whatever day your Sabbath day is, just remember God created it for us to keep it holy.
Blessings,
Beth
